In a joint resolution of the Valley School District Board and the Loon Lake School District Board, VL Transport Center was formed on November 16, 2005 pursuant to 39.34 RCW, RCW 28A.335.160 and chapter 180-32 WAC. The resolution conferred contractual authority and subsequent ownership of the inter-district transportation cooperative facility on Valley School District and designated Valley School District as the host district and legal applicant for purposes of Chapter 180-32 WAC.

The VL Transport Center is a tremendous asset to our community. Because the facility is set up as a cooperative, fuel, lubricants and parts can be bought at a reduced cost. In addition to fuel services, VLTC is a resource for members in need of engine repair that is beyond routine maintenance.

Membership is open to any school district, as well as any other public agency, such as state and county transportation departments, fire districts, emergency service responders, law enforcement and municipalities. Best of all, there is no charge to become a co-op member.

Members save money. During the 2009-2010 school year, Orient School District saved an average of $0.15 per gallon of fuel, for a total savings of approximately $2,865 for the year.

How did this happen? Through a partnership between the Valley and Loon Lake school districts, the project became eligible for special funding, making it possible for our community to buy a $2.8 million facility for 10¢ on the dollar.

Service Highlights

• Local access to a full range of maintenance and repair services and advanced diagnostic and repair expertise.
• Reduced costs on parts, lubricants, fuel additives and other expendables.
• Members generally save between $0.05 - $0.25 per gallon on fuel. This includes delivery to co-op member locations. (Note: fuel service is only available to school district members and not to other public entity members.)
• Routing services to improve efficiency.
• Meeting room outfitted with audio-visual equipment and an attached kitchen, provided at a reduced rental rate, or free, to qualifying groups in our area.
